Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Everyone knows Harry Potter. Everyone wants to see the new movie. But is it worth it? I've seen
it... twice. So I know what it's like. Read on to find out more about it.

I am a big fan of the books so I expect to see everything done by the book... Literally. That was probably the reason why I was disappointed by the movie the first time I saw it. A lot of scenes were cut out and Mr. Yates even added some scenes of his own...

Dumbledore's memories
A lot of Dumbledore's memory scenes were cut out. The only scenes that were left were when Dumbledore met Tom for the first time and the memory with Riddle asking about the Horcruxes to Slughorn. The memory part should have been more dominating and I wasn't happy with the scenes being cut out.

Harry's Invisibility Cloak
Harry's Invisibility Cloak was a important object in three scenes in the book. In the movie though Harry, Ron and Hermione go after Draco and his mom without the Cloak... It's weird nobody noticed them... In the train though he uses the Cloak. I wonder how he could eavesdrop on Draco without the Cloak.... I'll get to the third time later on.

The Half-Blood Prince
The book, and the movie, is called HP and the Half-Blood Prince for a reason. In the movie though it feels like:
Harry: The Half-Blood Prince? Who's that?
Snape: I am, later bro!
There is only one scene in which Hermione and Ginny ask who it is. Hermione mentions going to the library. Also when Harry uses Sectumsecmpra against Draco, Snape doesn't even ask one question.

The Cave
This was the best scene of the movie. Brilliant performance by Daniel Radcliffe and Michael Gambon. Very beautifully done! I may not like David Yates but I have to give him credit for this.

Dumbledore dies...
We all know how Dumbledore dies... Dumbledore tells Harry to go and hide. Harry eventually does nothing to keep Snape or Draco from killing him. Right? Of course not! That's not how Harry is. He would have done everything to protect Dumbledore. This is very very poorly done in the movie. The performance of the actors was brilliant though.

Dumbledore's Army vs Death Eaters?
Awesome fight scene! NOT! No fighting scene at all. Just Harry casting spells at Snape who just defends himself. He says:"I'm the Half-Blood Prince..." and runs away.

Dumbledore's Funeral
No funeral... I am really pissed at David Yates. How could he do this? It seems like he filmed a completely different version of the book than we know it.

Grade: 7/10

The film was quite good overall. The performances of Tom Felton, Michael Gambon and Emma Watson (!) were quite good and made up for the changes in the story. The movie is worth watching I'd say.
